How to Place Roulette Outside Bets: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Place Roulette Outside Bets: A Step-by-Step Guide

Red

This is betting that on the next spin a red-colored number will come up. The payoff for this bet is one to one, or even money. For example, to bet $5 on the red numbers, you place your $5 in chips on the box marked “Red” on the outside of the layout. If a red number comes up, you win $5.

Black

This is betting that on the next spin a black-colored number will come up. The payoff for this bet, as for a red bet, is one to one. For example, to bet $10 on the black numbers, you place your $10 in chips on the box marked “Black” on the outside of the roulette layout. If a black number comes up, you win $10.

Even

This is betting that on the next spin an even number will come up. (This doesn’t include 0 or 00.) The payoff for this bet is even money, one to one. For example, to bet $25 on the even numbers, you place your $25 in chips on the box marked “Even” on the outside of the layout. If an even number comes up, you win $25.

Odd

This is betting that on the next spin an odd number will come up. The payoff for this bet, as for an even bet, is one to one. For example, to bet $15 on the odd numbers, you place your $15 in chips on the box marked “Odd” on the outside of the layout. If an odd number comes up, you win $15.

Low Bet

This is betting that on the next spin a number from 1-18 will come up. The payoff for this bet is even money. For example, to bet $4 on numbers 1-18, you place $4 in chips on the box marked “Low” on the outside of the layout. If a number from 1-18 comes up on the next spin, you win $4.

High Bet

This is betting that on the next spin a number from 19-36 will come up. The payoff for this bet, as for low, is one to one. For example, to bet $7 on numbers 19-36, you place $7 in chips on the box marked “High” on the outside of the layout. If a number from 19-36 comes up on the next spin, you win $7.

Column Bet

This is betting that on the next spin a number from a particular column of twelve numbers will come up. The payoff for this bet is two to one, or twice your bet. A column bet is placed at the end of the layout below the column of your choice, where it says “2 to 1” (making it easy to remember the payoff odds for this bet). For example, to bet $5 on numbers 2 through 35 (the middle column), you put your $5 in chips in the “2 to 1” box below 35. If a number from 2-35 comes up on the next spin, you win $10.

Dozen Bet

This is betting that on the next spin a number from a particular group of twelve numbers will come up. You have three choices: 1-12 (Ist dozen), 13-24 (2nd dozen), and 25-36 (3rd dozen). A dozen bet is placed in the appropriate box located alongside the thirty-eight numbered boxes. The payoff for a dozen bet, as for a column bet, is two to one. For example, to bet $15 on numbers 25-36, you place your $15 in chips in the “3rd 12” box. If a number from 25-36 comes up on the next spin, you win $30.
